Kirk Sand Studio Classic
The picture of the Sand guitar on the chair is one of the two prototype Studio Classic guitars made by Sand for Chet Atkins and used as prototypes for the Gibson Studio Classic - honoring Chet's endorsement agreement with Gibson and with Kirk Sand's blessing.
The back and sides are actually carved out of a solid piece of mahogany. The top is braced in the traditional way and allowed to resonate without obstruction. The instrument has some acoustic volume but the lack of soundhole is specifically to overcome performance feedback problems. It works.
This instrument was used to record the CD: "Heavy Mellow" by Clyde Kendrick - The undersaddle pickups were later replaced.
