Gibson L-4 1929 - Built early in 1929, this guitar is one of the last of the classic oval hole styled 16” L-4’s, since by the time this was built the newly redesigned round sound-hole L-4’s were already in production.
This instrument was either built and completed at this late date from remaining parts or was possibly a custom order. The 14 fret neck is unusual for an oval hole L-4 as most of these were built as 12 fret models. Nicely figured maple back and sides are also a more “modern” touch as earlier L-4’s that were generally constructed of birch.
